My legal name is Thomas, but people call me Tommy. Let me start by saying, I’m looking to correspond with people who are open minded, compassionate, and those who are interesting in making and/or supporting change within the criminal justice and prison systems in the United States. I have been incarcerated for the past 5 years and counting. My case is not unlike other police involved shootings, whereby misconduct and deviation from procedure ultimately led to an officer’s death. While I am accountable for the actions that led me to that point in time, I cannot and will not be accountable for rogue police practices that are all too commonplace in America today. We are witnessing heightened aggressive police tactics that are leading to more wrongful arrests, overzealous prosecutions, and more deaths than we’ve ever seen before. Our “system” is deeply flawed, and bold steps need to be taken to transform it. I have faith we can create a system focused on rehabilitation and restoration rather than punishment and retribution. If we work together, we can create a system that recognizes the humanity of all individuals, regardless of their past mistakes. I'm working day in and day out to be a better person today than I was yesterday. I utilize portions of my “free” time indulging in my interests which include reading, writing, and exercising. Reading provides me the space to focus less on the realities of prison while exploring new ideas and favorable perspectives. Writing assists me in processing my thoughts and managing my emotions intelligently. Exercise is simply a stress reliever that I benefit from as it strengthens my mind and body. I also spend time reviewing my legal cases, generating business ideas, and contemplating ways to facilitate change within the system. I'm excited for this opportunity to network with people from all walks of life. If you're interested in corresponding with me don't hesitate to reach out. Please send EMAILS ONLY via CorrLinks. Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that snail mail will reach me in this facility. Respectfully, Tommy
